Looking to start your summer break with a bang? Don’t miss “The Garfield Movie Showtimes” hitting theaters Memorial Day weekend 2024! This hilarious and unexpectedly touching family adventure is set to charm both old fans and new.
Join Garfield, everyone’s beloved lazy cat with a penchant for lasagna, as he wows a fresh audience with his sharp humor and impressive eating skills.
Our family first caught wind of this new Garfield film at the St. Pete Italian Fest at the Pier in April. My little lasagna enthusiasts were so excited that we couldn’t wait to catch the advance screening in Tampa!
What Happens in The Garfield Movie Showtimes ?
This fresh take on the classic comic strip cat gives us a peek into how Garfield, voiced by Chris Pratt, ended up as the pampered pet we adore. We discover how Garfield “adopted” Jon at Mamma Leoni’s and became part of the family.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! The new movie takes Garfield on an unexpected outdoor adventure with his estranged father, Vic, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. Vic is a rugged street cat whom Garfield has mixed feelings about.
Their journey into the wild pushes Garfield beyond his comfort zone, both physically and emotionally. I anticipated plenty of eating and shenanigans, but I was pleasantly surprised by the film’s emotional depth. It’s a heartwarming tale that explores relationships and the power of grace.
What Age is The Garfield Movie Showtimes For?
The Garfield Movie is rated PG due to its action, peril, and mild thematic elements. With my kids being 7 and 11, I found it to be an ideal fit for their elementary school age. I’d recommend it for kids aged 6 and up.
The Storyline, Characters and Cast
In The Garfield Movie Showtimes, the beloved lazy and grumpy orange cat Garfield (voiced by Chris Pratt) embarks on an unexpected adventure that challenges his fears of the great outdoors. His journey takes a surprising turn when he reconnects with his estranged father, Vic, a scrappy street cat voiced by Samuel L. Jackson, leading to an awkward yet intriguing father-son reunion.
As Garfield and his loyal dog friend, Odie (voiced by Gregg Berger), are pulled away from their cozy home, they find themselves entangled in Vic’s outrageous heist scheme. The adventure also features Garfield’s human owner, Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult), alongside an eclectic cast including Otto (Ving Rhames), Jinx (Hannah Waddingham), Snoop Cat (Snoop Dog), and Roland (Brett Goldstein). This diverse mix of characters adds to the film’s charm as the adventure unfolds.
Kids, Grownups Reactions
For this review, my husband, our two boys (ages 3 and 7), and their grandma went to see The Garfield Movie. As newcomers to Garfield’s world, this was their first encounter with the beloved orange cat and his quirky friends, including both classic and new characters created for the film.
Despite their age difference, both boys had a fantastic time. They were enthralled by Garfield’s humor and antics, with the film’s continuous action. Lively dialogue capturing their attention from start to finish. Their favorite moments included the train ride and Garfield’s surprise party near the end. They enjoyed the movie so much that they’ve been asking to return to the theater to see it again, though for now, they’ve settled for watching Garfield on YouTube.
Dad and Grandma also agree that The Garfield Movie is filled with humor and is ideal for kids. It’s a family-friendly film that appeals to all ages. The soundtrack is a standout, featuring classics like Cheap Trick’s “Wild Thing,” Sammy Davis Jr.’s “Talk to the Animals,” and Tom Jones’ “What’s New Pussycat,” making it enjoyable for both Baby Boomers and Millennials.
As my seven-year-old aptly put it. “There’s nothing better than seeing a really fun kid’s movie like The Garfield Movie in a big theater. That’s why I love going to the movies.”
The Garfield Backstory
The movie draws inspiration from the iconic Garfield comic strip created by Jim Davis. Which first went into national syndication in 1978. Based in Davis’s hometown of Muncie, Indiana, Garfield’s popularity soared, and by 2015. The comic was featured in approximately 2,100 newspapers and journals across 80 countries. Remarkably, Garfield still holds the Guinness World Record for the most syndicated comic strip globally. And continues to captivate around 200 million readers today.
